In my review of The Infidels<\/a>, I covered the \u201caim\u201d of Agonist<\/a> \u2014 selling expensive, limited edition bottles<\/em> with perfume inside. Even though pricy, glass\/crystal bottles don\u2019t tempt me,<\/em> I still wanted to try Liquid Crystal \u2014 Agonist\u2019s fourth perfume\/bottle release.<\/p>\n Liquid Crystal was created by Fabrice Pellegrin<\/a> (perfumer) and \u00c5sa Jungnelius (Kosta Boda glass artist). Liquid Crystal includes notes of bergamot, artemisia, spices, cloves, orange, lavender, incense, patchouli, vetiver, white amber, tonka bean, labdanum and cedar.<\/p>\n Liquid Crystal opens smooth, with lush notes of orange, bergamot, lavender and some almost-smoky wormwood. The combined opening notes produce, believe it or not, a rich, ripe mango aroma. Slowly, lavender leaf comes to the fore; this is lavender with a hint of menthol-clove and delicious vanilla \u2014 a beautiful combination. Liquid Crystal\u2019s amber-y base notes are sheer: slightly powdery labdanum-frankincense mixed with patchouli and \u201ccandied\u201d tonka bean. Liquid Crystal’s lavender note\u00a0never\u00a0disappears; it provides a touch of herbal greenness even\u00a0during the fragrance’s extreme dry down, when cedar, musk and more<\/em> tonka bean\/vanilla appear.<\/p>\n Liquid Crystal is a well-made, lovely fragrance that reminds me of classic Shalimar<\/a> and Jicky<\/a>; it\u2019s suitable for men or women and has \u201ccalm\u201d sillage and good lasting power. Only 300 bottles of Liquid Crystal were made for sale; each bottle (refillable) contains 50 ml of Eau de Parfum and sells for \u2014\u00a0sit down \u2014\u00a0$1,150 (a price that makes Agonist The Infidels, at $495, seem downright inexpensive).<\/p>\n Agonist treats fragrance like a \u201cgift with purchase\u201d \u2014 buy an expensive bottle and get some perfume too.
