<\/a>Parfums d’Imperfiction<\/h5>\n

Indie perfume house of Konstantin Mihov, a psychology student in Germany and a regular on the Perfume of Life forum. As the name implies, the scents are inspired by fictional works. His debut fragrance, Alice in Wonderland<\/a>, launched in 2007. Eleven Minutes & O Alquimista<\/a> will also launch in 2007.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Parfums d’Orsay<\/h5>\n

Count Alfred d\u2019Orsay (1801-1852) was a French-born dandy, said to be the “most fashionable man in the most fashionable circles in the most fashionable town in the world: London” (Last of the Dandies: The Scandalous Life and Escapades of Count d’Orsay<\/span>, by Nick Foulkes). He dabbled in perfumery, and reputedly created a fragrance called “Eau de Bouquet”.<\/p>\n

The Parfums d\u2019Orsay line was established after his death and named in his honor. Various sources report the founding year as 1865, 1908 and even 1933; 1908 appears to be the most likely. Count D’Orsay’s original “Eau de Bouquet” was reportedly “reworked” into the line’s Etiquette Bleue fragrance. I do not know the detailed history of the line, but they were issuing new fragrances into the the 20th century, and the line was “revived” in 1995.<\/p>\n

Fashion designer Sophie Albou established Paul & Joe, named after her two sons, in 1995. Two fragrances were launched in 2003: Blanc<\/a> and Bleu.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Paul Smith<\/h5>\n

British fashion designer who started with a small shop in 1970 specializing in menswear. He showed his first collection in Paris in 1976; women’s designs were added in the 1990s. By 2000, Paul Smith was Britain’s largest designer label. The line has a huge following in Japan (200+ stores), although he is still somewhat less well known in the US.<\/p>\n

Fragrances were introduced in 2000 with Paul Smith Original, followed by Extreme (2002), Paul Smith London<\/a> (2004) and Paul Smith Floral for women<\/a> (2005).<\/p>\n

American sportswear designer who established his own line in 1978. Ellis died in 1986. Marc Jacobs was the designer from 1988 until 1993, but left shortly after his infamous “grunge” collection. The women’s sportswear line was eventually dropped, and the line is now best known for its menswear.<\/p>\n

Fragrances debuted in 1985 with Perry Ellis for Women and Perry Ellis for men. Later scents include 360 for women (1993), 360 for men (1995), America (women & men, 1996).<\/p>\n

<\/a>Pierre Cardin<\/h5>\n

French fashion designer. He joined Christian Dior<\/a> in 1946, then left to start his own fashion house in 1949. He was known for his bold geometric designs, which are often described as ignoring the female form. Cardin was the first haute couture designer to open a ready-to-wear boutique and to put his clothing line in department stores, and also the first to license his name to a wide variety of lifestyle goods.<\/p>\n

His first fragrance, Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur, launched in 1972. Other fragrances include Choc de Cardin<\/a> (1981), Rose Cardin (1990), Enigme (1993), Insatiable (1995), Revelation (2004).<\/p>\n

Cosmetics and skincare company founded as a division of Estee Lauder<\/a> in 1979 and discontinued in 2009.\u00a0 The first Prescriptives fragrance, Calyx,<\/a> was introduced in 1986, and is still on the market as Clinique Calyx.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Prince Matchabelli<\/h5>\n

Perfume house established by Russian Prince Georges Matchabelli and his wife, Princess Norina Matchabelli, and probably best known for Wind Song<\/a> (1952). The house was sold in 1936 and has since had several owners; it is currently held by Parfums de Coeur, a manufacturer of designer fragrance dupes.<\/p>\n
