\"Issey<\/p>\n

Japanese fashion designer who established his own line in 1970. His approach to fashion is often described as “technology-driven” and streamlined; according to the New York Times,<\/p>\n

With the help of a studio that includes talented fabric designers, he has made some of the most radical clothing of his time — if it is not ahead of his time — introducing synthetic materials and initiating or perfecting new techniques: most notably, his signature pleating and wrinkling processes.1<\/sup><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In 2000, designer Naoki Takizawa took over responsibility for the ready-to-wear line; in 2006 he was replaced by Dai Fujiwara.<\/p>\n

Fragrances were introduced in 1992 with L’Eau d’Issey<\/a>, a huge seller despite a brief that reportedly called for the fragrance to smell like water, and despite the fact that Miyake was not a household name at the time.
