Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit and happy May Day! Birthdays: Calamity Jane, Sterling Allen Brown, Joseph Heller, Terry Southern, Shirley Horn, Judy Collins, Wes Anderson. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I’m wearing my usual May Day fragrance, vintage Diorissimo.
Reminder: 5/8 is Sir David Frederick Attenborough's 100th birthday! Honor the occasion however you like: scent your favorite animal? Wear a fragrance that honors plants or water or anything natural? Wear a fragrance that makes you think of one of your favorite Attenborough television series? It's a pretty open field (and it's also Iris Day, in case you want to kill two birds with one stone).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the Colette doll in Liberty Pink Meadow ("This rabbit doll with an embroidered face is suitable for the youngest children - the designers at Pamplemousse Peluches have also made a point of using tactile fabrics and stimulating colors to awaken your little ones' imagination...") with removable faux fur stole (also lined in Pink Meadow), $125 at Pamplemousse Peluches.
SOTD is Hermes Muguet Porcelaine, with a drop of the old Caron Muguet parfum. Even though it’s a cold wet rainy day here with high winds-we don’t usually see lily of the valley until June.
That little rabbit is beautiful. Years ago my mother made my brother a cloth rabbit and it looks a lot like this little bunny. Oddly she also made a blue silk dress for the rabbit-very impractical for a rabbit who had a lot of adventures:)
Following your Muguet lead, albeit in the Nicolai iteration. Silk maybe not be very practical, but it *is* fabulous…
Are you the NSTer that has Paddock by Hermes. I see the are doing that scent again this year. What do you think of it? Worth the money?
I have a decant of Paddock, and I love it. What is the cost in the store? I think I paid $40 cdn for 10 ml. It’s the entire barnyard-hay, horses, sunlight, a salt lick, oats, bran and lots of lots of leather. I think it’s great but def try before you buy. I hope you get to try it 🙂
Our lily of the valley are blooming right on time 🙂
Hope you see yours soon!
I remembered my rabbits (!) and chose Dior Granville for May Day. Granville’s notes sound like an old-school men’s fragrance, with thyme, rosemary, pine tree, broom and pepper among the lemon and woody notes, but it was apparently intended to be marketed to women. I adore everything about it, including the mini bottle (which is more a medium-mini than a mini-mini).
This one sounds wonderful, and I don’t believe I’ve ever tried it. Hope you have been enjoying it, SheriG!
I remembered too, and that’s rare for me.
Happy May Day!
Dzongkha for an overcast morning and a walk in the hills.
Happy May Day DeniseH! You smelled great today.
Happy May! Summer’s gonna hit hard this year I do believe, so all you lovers of that season, enjoy! I’ll be grousing as per usual.😉
Always looking for peace and happiness. It’s fleeting, which is what makes it so appreciated. I’m not sold on “lucky.”
Wearing Tauer’s Au Coeur du Desert from my small cobalt bottle. Love this stuff so much! The flowers get really amped on me which is not something I usually enjoy, but the blend is so smooth and rich and those warmer notes holding hands with the flowers make it a perfect scent, imo. It gives the same sensation to my olfactory bulb that warm velvet feels in the hand. Rich and decadent. It lasts on me forever, two swipes is enough to last all day and into the night.
I’m a “rabbit” loser because almost every day when I wake, my first thought is coffee. I’m very simple. 🙃
Happy weekend!
I’ with you on the Au Coeur and I love that small cobalt bottle, too. Also with you on the ‘first thought is coffee.’ ☕️
I don’t recall ever getting floral notes in Tauer’s ACdD. I should get my sample out and give it a sniff to refresh my memory.
In the mood for jasmine on this grey, rain-sodden day, because it always smells like happiness to me, so today I’m in multiple spritzes of Demeter Jasmine. It’s an excellent soliflore, but typically not long-lasting, so I bolstered it with a little smoosh of Lush Lust solid.
Can’t get more jasmine than Lush Lust!
Great jasmine combo!
Greetings from Milan! I have been enjoying sharing with my family here and relaxing most of the time, since I arrived on Tuesday morning. It is wonderful to be back in this city after many years of not visiting.
We went to 10 Corso Como Cafe for lunch today and also visited the boutique. I did some sniffing while there. Nothing really caught my attention since all scents are found in the US. Once again it was confirmed that the 10 Corso Como perfume has been discontinued, so no more inquiries about that. I am planning to stop by Arts Parfums Milano tomorrow after meeting with some friends in the afternoon. Next week I will be in Verona, so the adventure continues.
Sotd Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu.
Happy Friday! 🌻
Have a gorgeous time with your family!!
I still have my little decant of 10 Corso Como and when I sniff it, it really brings back early memories of falling down the perfume rabbit hole in a lovely way.
Have a great time pl67!
I’m so happy that you are taking a well deserved vacation. Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Divertiti in Italia!💐🇮🇹
Sounds like a wonderful trip. Enjoy!
Have a great time pl67!
10 CC was a great fragrance, it’s too bad somebody doesn’t resurrect it.
Do enjoy the rest of your trip! Eat something lovely for me!
I hope you are having a super-fantastic time!
Viva l’avventura! I treasure my old bottle of 10CC. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
Glad to hear that you are having a wonderful time in Italy!
MDCI Un Coeur en Mai
It’s still cold here, but warm weather should begin on Sunday.
Perfect May Day fragrance Glannys! We are not too cold, but still not as warm as usual for this time of year.
Remembered my rabbits shortly after midnight. My May Day scents are BBW Rose body wash/lotion and two sprays of Shalimar Millesime Rose.
I’m always up until after midnight, and have wondered if it counts if you say your rabbits then. Thinking it did, I said them last night.
I think it does.
Sounds like a rosy start of the month. ☺️
☺️
I say it counts, because that’s usually the only time I remember the rabbits. 🙂
Hello and tgif!
Forgot my rabbits though so I am wearing multiple spritzes of Zoologist Rabbit to make up for it.
Note to self: don’t browse the internet for perfumes when sick and feeling bummed. In a moment of weakness I ordered a bottle of Roja Dove Espresso Aoud blind. Fingers crossed it smells as good as it sounds because that is some investment piece…
Hope you feel better and enjoy the Roja!
Will cross my fingers too! And sorry for sick & bummed.
Happy May! 🐇🐇🐇 Ambre Precieux today. 🥰🚂
I tried Quintessentially Amber earlier this week and, while beautiful, it was pretty formulaic just as the name might imply 😆 so it didn’t ring my bell really. Certainly I would happily wear if a bottle fell in my lap but probably won’t go on the FB list. The top of my FB wish list is Bengale Rouge right now for all those wondering. 😁
Thanks – I do enjoy these mini reviews *and* knowing what’s currently at the top of the list. Inquiring minds…
Want to know! 😉 ehaeheh Thanks, SP!
Well, I did rabbit this morning, but I also said “go back to sleep” to Mr. SP when we both woke up at 2am…
Wearing Obvious Un Été today for good luck all month. Obvious renamed it to Milk & Matcha in 2025 which, unless it’s actually been reformulated now, seems like a fairly shameless grab at attention due to the current matcha craze. I do like the Un Été very much. Citrus, ginger, matcha tea, sort of beachy (and great in warm weather which we are having)!
That sounds really good…I am mostly ignoring all the matcha everywhere but beachy-citrus-ginger matcha sounds nice.
I remembered my rabbits this morning, although they did have to wait until after after I said thank you to Mr. E for waking me up (I’m a heavy sleeper.) Do I get sort-goood luck? 😄
SotD is L’Artisan Fleur d’Oranger, since I love it and it always reminds me of my wedding day when all the orange blossoms were blossoming! This was in California, and being from the Midwest, this was a miracle to me. ☀️
Wishing everyone a happy Friday and and peace, happiness and good luck ahead.
“sort-of”
You smell lovely and what a wonderful wedding day memory💐
Thank you, allo. A shame it hadn’t been made yet, haha.
Ah, then I’ll call it a prospective memory🔮
😄
You smell lovely.
Happy Springy Friday!
I’m joining others in wearing Diorissimo and can’t stop smelling myself (something I only say in other perfumista company)😊
And I can’t wear this beauty without acknowledging Mr. springpansy, who liberated my vintage bottle after I’d tried everything to pry it open. To which I exclaimed, “DiorISSimo!!!”
😀 😀 😀 ♥
Excellent!
How perfect in all respects!
Hurray for Mr. Springpansy’s bottle opening skills!
Not for points-but I am in Chanel No 5 Premiere for Kentucky Derby weekend…in my mind I am in the grandstands in a chanel suit watching the races with a mint julep in hand. Reality, I will be making mint juleps at home and watching the races tomorrow on my couch.
I hope you enjoy your day watching the Derby-you smell elegant. I’ve never had a mint julip 🙂
I made Martha Stuart’s julep recipe 🙂
I have a picture of my Mom at the Kentucky Derby in the 80’s.
It was a real treat for her to go.
Oh- what a sweet memory
I always watch it from home too but have always wanted to attend it in person.
Me too! I went to the Belmont Stakes last year and had the best time! I would love to go to the Derby one year or Preakness
🐇 🐇🐇 and three extra sets for whomever wants them!
SOTD = Tauer Patchouli Absolue
Yes! I finally got it yesterday and now I am wearing it. I love it!
I called United War Veterans Council today and now have a date set for pickup at the end of May. Looking forward to continued decluttering.
Not sure if I had previously linked to it – here’s an NY Times gift article on how to say no to becoming a bridesmaid. Maybe not in this article but Reddit had some doozies and they continue on and on and on to infinity:
https://www.nytimes.com/2026/04/22/podcasts/modern-love-bridesmaid-tips-ruhama-wolle.html?unlocked_article_code=1.c1A.Zoq8.kwCICtinlfiC&smid=nytcore-ios-share
I’m glad you got the correct perfume! Enjoy!
So glad you love your new bottle!
How does the Tauer Patchouli Absolue compare with Diptyque Tempo? I know you used to have the second one.
I’m home, having gone and come back from PT this morning before the horrid rains started–now accompanied by lightning strikes and loud thunder–eek!
Today I’m continuing my Amouage week, but not with something from my sample box, but with the gorgeous work of genius that is Jublilation 25. It’s one of those scents that sends my eyes into the back of my cranium. Just too too beautiful. I do find in it a parallel to Diorella, which I also adore (that has basil, this has tarragon–I seem to love herbs in perfume!), but can’t understand why it’s often compared to Mitsouko. Other than their both being chypres, I find no fruit or peach here at all. Since this is one of my top 5 fragrances, it will definitely start off the month of May on a happy note (despite our deluge).
I hope the storms have passed Calypso.
They did such a great job on 25 and XXV…they really should have sold a little set of both in 15 ml 🙂
Hope that your weather is calmer today than it was yesterday.
I’m in Le Temps d’une Fête today for the CP and the beautiful May weather.
No rabbits for me, as I would have had to have said them at 4:30 a.m. when Mr. Ockeghem woke me up to say goodbye as he left for his month in Europe. I’m free for a day and a half, as he’s off and Ockeghem Teen left early yesterday for a class trip to a marine biology lab on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Proof of life has been provided with photos of sea cucumbers, cats, and black bears.
I have to say that if there were ever a case for sleeping in a separate bed from your spouse, it is the night before said spouse has an early morning flight. He tossed and turned all night, and so I tossed and turned all night, and now I could really use a nap.
I hope you got your nap!
Alas, no, but I’m planning an early bedtime. My usual BBC Pride and Prejudice binge when everyone is away will have to wait.
Enjoy your “me” time!
I had a spare set of rabbits you could have used.
Today’s cp features peace, happiness, and good luck. I find these elements (not sure about the good luck, maybe just good karma?) in yoga and in music. For my yoga-related SOTD and for today’s cp, I chose Pacifica Mountain Temple Incense layered over BBW’s Aomatherapy Restful Moon (a full 🌕 tonight!) body lotion and Patchouli essential oil mist.
And for music-related influence bringing me ☮️ 🥰and 🍀, I’ll share a special song from a favorite folk duo, Patchouli (Julie) and Terra Guitarra (Bruce), married and performing together for many years. Bruce was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer a few years ago but made a miraculous recovery only to have his weakened body succumb to complications from fungal meningitis last summer. He was a talented painter as well as a talented musician and a beautiful person. Julie finally got herself together enough to finish the last album they were working on at the time of his death, and last Saturday we attended her concert debuting the new music and celebrating Bruce’s life. ‘I Believe in Music’ is a song they often ended their concerts with everyone singing along, and we did so with Julie that night. May it soothe your soul and bring you peace, happiness and good luck!🎶
https://youtu.be/7gZa406X_mk?si=FKYgkUP6A44M0Qmg
Lovely song! Sorry for the loss of one of your favorite musicians. 😢
Julie and Bruce played at our local community college for the Empty Bowls event each December until they started wintering in Florida, that’s how I got to know them. They lived in WI right by the Mississippi, which inspired much of their music. Julie literally lights up a room when she plays and sings. Bruce was a very talented painter as well, they even have a gallery just for that purpose, and he was an extremely talented Spanish guitarist, hence the Terra Guitarra name. They have many YouTube videos where you can witness their talents.
Oh, that is a sad story…thanks for the link.
Love the song! So sad to hear about their travails but it sounds like a wonderful celebration.
Obviously, Beltane from Maison des Animaux for Beltane
Yeah, you probably win!
My dog decided he wanted to go to school with my daughter today. He ran out the door when she went out to get on the bus. You should have seen me running behind him in my pajamas and slippers and crazy hair. Fortunately he’s a big scardy cat and ran back to the house when the bus started to go.
My sotd is EL Knowing. I picked it because perfumey perfumes make me happy.
I would love to have witnessed that scene and am so glad the doggo returned unscathed. And you “knew” just the fragrance to wear for the occasion. Needless to say, you smell divine😊
…and happy!
Perfumey perfumes just fit the bill sometimes! You smell great, lillyjo. Glad your doggo got back in the house.
Hopefully your dog won’t try to board your daughter’s school bus again!
I wore Lush Silky Underwear. I know the name is fairly cringe but it’s a great scent. It’s one that gets forgotten in my stash but I always enjoy it.
I love that one too 🙂
I love the fragrance and have the powder version. I sometimes use it as a “dry shampoo.”
Posting insanely late!
My apartment had a temporary water outage from 8am to 5pm today due to the construction. I left Teflon kitty in charge of things after making sure she had plenty of food and water.
SOTD = Dame Perfumery Lily of the Valley soliflore lotion in the usual spots.
